What are some of the ways i can make money in the gaming industry at the age of 17?

Maybe just a summer job.

I have no experience in programming or anything of the ilk.

At 17 years old, the closest you'll be able to get to the game industry is working at a place like GameStop. No game studio offers summer or part time jobs -- you must be able to work full time, in an office, often 9am to 6pm, to be able to work in the game industry. Once you graduate high school, your choices open up a bit. If you live near a game studio (check the map here: http://gamedevmap.com/ ), you may be able to get a job as a Quality Assurance tester once you graduate high school. Customer service and Tech Support are also options, but may be more difficult to break into than QA. Most studios also need office support, for mail room, answering phones, etc.

To get into any form of game development, you will need to get a college degree first. Get a Computer Science degree if you are interested in programming, or a Fine Arts degree if you are interested in any visual aspect of the game. Getting into game design (the process of thinking up every tiny detail of gameplay) is very competitive. You need in a Bachelor's degree, but it can be in whatever you want; you need strong math and writing skills; and you need to understand what makes a game fun.
