How good is GeForce 8400M GS Video Card for high end gaming?

I am gonna buy HP Pavillion dv6703TX notebook and this laptop possesses the mentioned graphics card? How far can I go with this laptop (which has GeForce 8400M GS as graphics accelerator) in case of gaming?

How good is GeForce 8400M GS Video Card for high end gaming?
if you're talking of a 2.4 ghz processor (and a laptop graphics) this must be the top of the line Core 2 Duo T7700.

you didn't tell neither the brand nor the type of the laptop, but based on the CPU this has to be a high end laptop. in this case i suppose you can chose from a wider variety of graphics card.

btw, at least you should chose the 8600M GT, but eventually there is also to chose a 8700M or even a 8800M (the higher the number the better).

no, for gaming i wouldn't recommend the 8400M GS.
Reply:brenda_clovis is correct. The 8400 is a poor card. The minimum for high end gaming is 8600 or better.
Reply:I also own a HP Pavilion dv6703TX with a NVIDIA 8400M GS 256MB graphics card and 1.66 GHz Core2Duo processor and 2GB RAM. You are expecting higher than your notebook is capable of. With this configuration, you can play one-generation old games but the latest high-end games won't run properly with this processor and graphics chipset. If your purpose is gaming only, I would recommend you to buy a high-end desktop with at least 2.2 GHz Core2Duo, 2 GB RAM, NVIDIA 8800GT 512 MB VRAM and a 19" monitor. This type of configuration is rare in laptops and if available then at a premium price i.e. above Rs. 80,000. Not needed to mention, 8800GT is not available in laptops. Choose your notebook wisely since video graphics can not be upgraded in notebooks. Otherwise, the HP one is not bad at all at its price and it will give you a above average result while gaming hard.
Reply:Why don't you try a GeForce 9800 GX2 with 2-512's or 1Gig if you want affordable high end at about $500.00.

Cards can be had fo as much as $1800.00 if you really want to get fancy.
Reply:Use your notebook for the net and office work on the go. Everything else and serious gaming: go with a DIY desktop...
