What is recommended for a portable gaming system?

I'm not really into games, but I need to pickup a portable system and I'm not sure what to get. Should I get something like the Nintendo DS? What about the Lite since its only $109 used at Gamestop.

What is recommended for a portable gaming system?
i would get the psp u can have videos, music, and play games with it.
Reply:I have a PSP and I like it a lot! you can play movies on it as well as games provided you get a large enough memory stick. the advantage of a DS is that when you save your game you don't need a memory stick. PSP has better graphics and even movies you can buy. DS has several games but no movies. The New Super Mario Bros is a great game for DS. Grand Theft Auto is a great game for PSP, there's also Star Wars lego for PSP and a really addicting tetris type game called Lumines. PSP has the ability to connect to the internet via wireless hotspots IE: Mcdonalds has one, msot coffee shops now have them, and PSP can connect to the playstation 3 to downlad old PSone games to it. But if money is the issue, go with DS if it's not I'd go PSP.
Reply:the ds is not comfortable to hold on to for a long time well and hour or so.even with a grip thing that nintendo makes for it.they make brain age/brain games other than that the graphic on it aren't to good also.i have a psp too and i love it i mean it was a web browser/download able games. psp batterrie life is way better too.i would say get a psp if you can afford it.but if you cant get the ds.im 25 and the ds doesn't make games that i want to play, they only make games for lil kids.
Reply:The DS is pretty good. It has good games and cool online.

The psp is like playstation games and can do alot of cool stuff.
Reply:The nintendo DS has a better all around support, and while the hardware is somewhat not as good as the PSP, the pricetag is much easier to swallow. There are many good games available for both systems, and don't fall for the "kiddy" game argument. Games are meant to be fun, and no amount of gore will make a bad game more enjoyable.
Reply:I bought a Nintendo DS and a PSP last year and the DS won me over hands down. Here's Why...

Games

The first thing that one me over was the games. Games for the DS are original, replayable, and very fun on a portable platform.

Battery Life

The battery life on the DS Lite is amazing. I charge it on Monday and play it a couple of hours a day all week long and the battery life is still going strong. You can litterally play it all day without charging it.

Cost

The cost is $129.00 ( almost half of PSP) although you can find them on craigslist all the time for $120.00 including games. Ganes are pretty cheap also. They range from $20 - $34.

Durability

I've never had a ds lite break on me and I've dropped it several times. I even spilled soy milk all over it once. Although the screen went dark for a couple of hours (I thought it was dead) it came back to life as good as new. If my testimony isn't enough check out this video.

Wifi

The wifi on the ds is amazing. It easy to connect to and makes certain games so much more fun. My personal favorite wifi games are Mario Kart, Club House games, Tetris, and Metroid Prime Hunters. The only thing I don't like about the DS's wifi is their "friend code" system. I guess it's supposed to keep kids safe from playing online games from internet predetors but it get really annoying for certain games ( ie animal crossing)

In final the DS beats the psp in every area except for Graphics. The PSP definitly wins there but you'll pay for it in load times that can be 30 seconds or more on the PSP and nonexistant on the DS.
Reply:Well the DS is aimed for a younger audience, it will have a lot more kiddish games on it, but a PSP is aimed for a more mature audience, but a PSP have a lto more features too it can play UMD movies you can use it as a MP3 player and your can store pictures on it as well as surf the web on it Via WiFi. Personally I would chose a PSP because all those features and it has a great selection of games on it, and the hardware in it is way better then the DS.
Reply:well, if you want good gameplay, and plenty of games to go with it, go for the DS.

if you like graphics, and relatively easier game play, go for the PSP.

if you get the DS, try to get Metroid Prime: Hunters as the first game, good storyline, easy multiplayer capabilities, and Wi-Fi capability. Its a fairly good FPS in my opinion, with a great feature:Alternate Forms.

dont fall for the "Kiddy Gameplay" scheme, they are very good games even if they are meant to the younger audiences.
