What Specs to look for when buying an HDTV for gaming?

My budget right now is around $900 but will save up more if necessary.

What Specs to look for when buying an HDTV for gaming?
You WILL WANT to SAVE MORE !!

In a few words You want the MOTION Flow or 120Hz refresh rate TV sets out there with 8ms and preferably 4ms RESPONSE time on the LCD....

More Candles and Higher Contrast Ratios on those too

It was built for Hi Speed Gaming....

There is another company that has built the Vyper Drive technology and I think it's Toshiba, but it's rated at 100 Hertz instead of 120 Hertz like the SONY TVs are....

But you want the Higher refresh rates for Better sharpness of the picture...

And $900 will NOT give you a gaming TV set...NO Where near it at all....

So come back next year with more money and you might have enough for the Gen 1 Motion Flow TVs out there....
Reply:yeah you have 25 years of servicing t.v.'s but you're off your rocker. most people don't spend more than 500$ on a t.v. dude, just find a 1080p HDTV that recieves digital signals and has HDMI inputs for optimum picture. regardless if it's a 360 or ps3 they both support 1080p. the only negative is price limits size significantly.

and they only time you should really worry about gettting good frame refresh rates is when you play computer games due to the monitor clarity which blows a t.v. out of the water (1080p or not).
Reply:Yep, you can get a good deal for $900. I'd defo go for 1080p and a decent contrast ratio. Great deals to be found at

http://www.pricecutreview.com/US/salesra...
Reply:The main specs you need to look for are refresh rate and the image processor. For refresh rate you want 8ms and below and 100 Mhz and above for optimal functionality.

TV TECH man won't like this, but I have heard from TONS of people that game on the 360 that the Vizio provides a good picture for both gaming as well as TV and movies. If you can't wait to save more and you need a HDTV right now, that would be a descent one to get and should be able to last you 3-4 years at the least. I definately suggest saving up to $1500 and looking somewhere in that range. For that you can get a good size set from a name brand company.

Can anyone tell me about colleges and universities where online gaming is either prohibited or impossible?

I know Grove City College in Pennsylvania

has their system structured so that students cannot play games online...there must be others, right? tell me about them....is there a

website that lists them?

Can anyone tell me about colleges and universities where online gaming is either prohibited or impossible?
Why are you trying to ban it? Even if it is not wired to allow it you can still do it on a wireless connection.

Maybe you should be more concerned about how good the college is for your career choice and less about the gaming community.
Reply:To Kev: I don't know, but it is possible that this person has a gambling addiction and wants to avoid temptation. It would be like an alcoholic choosing to go to a dry college. I wish I could help you, but I really don't know if there are other colleges which block gambling. I wish you luck in finding a good place, though.

How many do gaming on a Mac book pro with boot camp and how well does it work?

I am a gamer that likes lap tops and am wanting to get a Mac book pro as I hear Apples are just better.

How many do gaming on a Mac book pro with boot camp and how well does it work?
I'm going to sound like a total fanboy, but Macs really are just better.

If you get a Macbook Pro and Boot Camp for gaming, you absolutely will not be disappointed. I've seen Boot Camp run Windows and Linux like a charm on Macbooks and iMacs, and the Macbook Pro will give you an extra push with its snazzy video card.

Good luck!
Reply:According to review sites the best machine for running Windows Vista right now for a laptop is the MAC. I am curious to see how it is at running games as well as that would be interesting.

However, keep in mind that the price will be steep, you are paying for two entire operating systems in addition to the hardware that you have. Also keep in mind from a gaming perspective that Video Cards are much more limited for a MAC so you will have much fewer high powered options in that regard. For a laptop this might be ok, but it really depends on the type of gaming you do and how "bleeding edge" you want/need to be. The video cards you can buy are nice GForce cards, but you can't get any of the quad core stuff and you can't get any non-GForce cards.

The card is very nice for a laptop card though.

Why is there such a battle between next gen gaming consoles?

This has been bothering me for many months now. Everyone has a favourite console, and they have good reasons, but what bothers me is how determined they are to prove that it's the best. What I want to know is why people become so single-minded and biased?

Why is there such a battle between next gen gaming consoles?
People that do that are somwhat insecure. In order to convince themselves they've made the right decision and are 'cool' they try to conver others into their camp. After all, if there's a bunch of people that agree with you, it can't be wrong, right?

But then there's people in a different camp! Obviously, their opinion is wrong, otherwise the person's opinion would have been wrong, and he/she didn't make the right decison and isn't 'cool'. So, to make themselves feel secure, they tell the people in the other camp that they're wrong and that their system of choice is way better.
Reply:that way they can say they have the best one, it is all about money. You dont want to tell all your freinds you just went out and spent a load of cash on second best do you?
Reply:users are doing it for bragging rights

But among Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft, they wants their console to be the best. In business, there's no such thing as "to each its own". Your aim is to be the best choice for everyone...
Reply:You have to be a gamer to understand. It's exactly like "Ford is better than Chevrolet" mentality, or "Gatorade is better than water"
Reply:to show what they have was value for money and was worth it, and to prove to others that theres isnt as good, and they should buy it, its all about labels and money
Reply:Because we're all convinced that ours is the best. We are stubborn, and downright stupid because all the consoles are good. What I think it boils down to is labels. Many think that the PS3 are for chavs (which isn't true), the Wii for kids (which totally isn't true Resi Evil can dispell that) and the 360 for microsoft lovers. (which, again, isn't true).

We all label each other, but some do want to be labeled.

It is stupid coz some people have most consoles and enjoy the best of the games. Which is what we all should be doing.
Reply:its called money. those who have the biggest toys ( sales) win.
Reply:focus on this!

What's the difference between regular gaming and HD gaming?

So like ever since the PS3 has come out, people have been talking about it's HD capabilities, but does that really matter? What would the differences be if I played it on a regular 32 inch screen and then on a 42 inch LCD 1080 p television?

What's the difference between regular gaming and HD gaming?
If you have not seen it you will not know the difference. HD gaming is SO much more immersive. It is much sharper, and clearer than regular gaming. But know this, if you play your fancy Xbox 360 or PS3 on a regular tube TV, it will look great, but hook up that same system to a HDTV and you open up to a new world of gaming. I highly suggest you go to your local electronic store and watch the difference.
Reply:Hd gaming has more pixels and the games look more realistic and the text is easier to read for some games. Personally i dont really care about hd or watever its called
Reply:its the resolution of the picture.

How much should I sell my gaming pc for?

I have a custom built Vista Premium

16x optical dual layer dvd burner, burn dvd's up to 8.5 gigs, or burn cd's.

Amd 3800+ Dual Core clocking in at at 2 ghz

2 gigs ddr2 ram

Nvidia 7300 gt 256 mg vdram

250 gig hard drive

Tv tuner card to watch tv, record, rewind and pause

Vista Premium

120 watt speakers with subwoofer

Wireless keyboard

wireless optical mouse

2 pc gaming pads

6 usb ports 2 in front, 4 in back

Grand theft san andreas cd-rom real game not bootleg

All used for a month, has nero, dvix, microsoft word, microsoft office, aol, media center, dvix, real player, media player 11, internet explorer 7, avg anti virus, windows defender, picasa 2 photo editing software, windows movie maker, windows photo viewer, windows dvd maker, but Nero is better and more just can't remember. So how much do you think I can get? and how much should I sell it for?

How much should I sell my gaming pc for?
that is about 800 tops

i personally woudn't pay too much more than 800 if that.

the extras are what make it that much.

i have the same computer basically

except my AMD is running at 2.8ghz (dual core)

i have 2 7800GTs

and 500 gigs of RAM

I would be lucky to sell it at 1000

Edit: Blaze B has a pretty good point.

i'm not sure what your wireless keyboard and mouse is

but now that i take a better look at it.

your whole setup won't sell for much more than 600 bucks to a person who knows some sort of computer knowledge.

The thing is that, since you are selling with all thse software in it already, even though most of them are free, all your personal information is still in it.

so basically you need to clear (format) your entire flash drive somehow keeping vista in there

because vista can only be used once no matter what.

and then you would have to download all that stuff you have which gets spyware and stuff in there making your already slow computer, a little bit slower
Reply:500 gigs of ram...wow...it is almost unbelieveable. Report It

Reply:Well, the 2 GB of DDR2 is good.

However, the processor is... not so good. What socket is it? If it's 939 then it'll be worth less than an AM2 socket processor.

Next, that 7300 GT... is definitely not a 'gaming computer' piece of hardware. You might fool a buyer, but don't try to pass that off as a good gaming card here. Next, you didn't list a motherboard, which is also quite important.

Anyways, if you are good you might be able to spin this off in such a way that it would appear to be a very good computer. Although I'd never actually buy this comp (have my own and I'm happy with it), I think you should list it at $600 CAD/565 USD. However, you might not sell it for that price... I think that $500 CAD/470 USD is a slightly more realistic price you could actually sell it for.

Do you think the Wii could be used in professional gaming?

I think the wii should be used in professional gaming tournaments. I belive this way because, well to be honest I don't have an Xbox and I don't want one but I still want to play in professional tournaments (eventually). What's your opinion?

Do you think the Wii could be used in professional gaming?
Uh.... so people can be lazy? No, I don't think it should be.. if you enjoy the sport that much, get out there and play it.

It could happen (not likely), knowing today's technology and such.. I don't think it should though.

Is there an ideal operating system that I can use for 3d RPG gaming?

My instincts keep leaning toward LINUX. Windows XP seems too much of a resource hog.

I want to play a few 3D games like UT 2004 and World of War Craft. I exceed all of the minimum hardware requirements and keep my PC clean and efficient, defragged and scanned regularly (No unnecessary programs running in the background).

It would be cool if there was a PC operating system designed like an XBOX, where your resources are completely geared for just gaming.

Is there an ideal operating system that I can use for 3d RPG gaming?
There is one. Its called Dell XPS if you get the version of it better then the stock one it is a gaming comp for sure. If you dont have that kind of money then i would say windows xp. When i got my XP it was ready for WoW and FFXI right out of box. Just make sure you have a good graphix card.

Are there any volunteer opportunities for teens who love video gaming?

Are there any volunteer opportunities for teens who love video gaming?
I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but there is a charity founded by gamers called Child's Play. There are children's hospitals registered through the charity who include a bunch of toys on a wish list and the site asks if people can donate a toy on the list or donate money. Your son may be able to help get out the word about this charity.

Reply:How about working with disabled children? Video games can often be the great equalizer for children with disabilities and I'm sure the kids would love the attention from an older teen. Your son would also benefit from the opportunity to interact with these children, who tend to be pretty amazing people.

I want to know everytthing about gaming cafes from business point of view. How can I? Plz help me.?

I have a place of about 1500 Sq. Ft. %26amp; I am interested in opening a gaming cafe. Though I am not much of a gaming person. Plz give me all required info for this. Thank you in advance.

I want to know everytthing about gaming cafes from business point of view. How can I? Plz help me.?
Firstly, since you have no experience in the gaming cafe business, I'd advise that you work in one for the next six months or so doing everything from busing tables and washing dishes to waiting tables and cooking if they'll allow you back there and if you have the skills. This will give you some of the work experience that you'll need to understand and run a gaming cafe profitably.

If this is your first business venture, I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE. Ask for someone who has a background in restaurants/gaming cafes and they'll try their best to match you with the right counselor.

The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a gaming cafe and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll get them to find out and want to come to your fabulous gaming cafe.

The location of the gaming cafe is important but doesn't make it successful. To prove that all you have to do is walk down a street in your town where there are several nice restaurants all in a row and you'll find one or two that are empty while the others are very busy. It has to do with menu, ambiance, and your reputation at the beginning and over time.

You also have to have food handling licenses, gaming licenses, the right zoning, the right city and county licenses and permits and you have to be skilled at negotiating with your landlord about who'll stand the cost of the build-out or the changes to the premises to make it ready for your look and feel.

You also have to worry about the normal business planning and management issues related to starting up any business.

Take a look and read some of the articles at:

http://www.ychange.com/small-business-co...

especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business. Also try their Blog and their Bulletin Board.

Hope this helped.

Why do I have trouble catching movement while gaming?

I mostly this while playing my video games. Whenever I pan the camera at a slow-ish pace everything seems to be just a blur.

If that's too confusing try this: When watching a movie and somebody moves across the screen at maybe a jogging pace they just blur. Is this normal?

Why do I have trouble catching movement while gaming?
I'd say this has something to do with your nervous system and its speed in responding to changes and movement. Everyone has their own reaction rates.

If there is any treatment available, you will need to see your doctor so you might as well see them.

What Brand make the best gaming notebooks/laptops?

I want to buy the best customized gaming notebook but I can’t figure out the best brand. All have some have better advantages but some disadvantages. Others are vice versa. I just want to buy a customizable laptop with the fastest and most advance processor, hard drive, gaming card, portability and mobility. Just want to know what brand to choose cause I cant figure out myself.

What Brand make the best gaming notebooks/laptops?
I just got a Dell insipiron XPS gen 2 and I'll tell ya it blows all of them out of the water for gaming/power/performance.
Reply:Of the notebooks I've looked at recently, two I'd recommend are the Dell XPS M1710, which offers the Intel Core Duo processor as well as GeForce 7900 go GTX graphics. Less expensive, but still an excellent option, is Acer's travelmate 8200, with Core Duo processing and a Radeon X1600. Another good option, if you want really serious graphics but don't need a dual-core CPU, is the Voodoo envy U909, which offers SLI graphics in a notebook.

What do you need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for?

First question is in the title.

Second question is, what are some accessories that are good/nice to have with your 360? Do new 360's still have the overheating problem?

What do you need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for?
As for your first question, its for connecting it to your PC so you can use you wireless controller on PC Games.

And on 2, I just bought my Xbox 360 2 weeks ago, 25 Oct, and i usually dont play too long becuase i touch it and its kinda hot after 30 minutes, so i turn it off, and play again after a while, that how i avoid overheating.
Reply:As was said the wireless gaming receiver allows you to use the wireless controllers for the XBox 360 on your PC. That way if you really like using the 360 controller for playing Gears of War, you can now use them on your PC for taht game when it comes out on PC.

One accessory I recommend is the play and charge kit. It's a rechargable battery and USB cable to recharge it. The battery replaces the battery pack in the controller and the USB cable plugs into the top of the controller and the front of the 360. It's a good long 10 ft cord like the old XBox controllers, so if your battery dies, you just plug in the cable, keep playing, and recharge the battery all at once.

I've been lucky (knocks on wood), I bought a 360 on launch day and haven't had any problems with it overheating. I keep it in an area that has good air flow and I alos keep the brick of a transformer by itself in the back of teh entertainment center. Supposedly the newer 360s are supposed to have better heat dissipation.
Reply:I'm not sure how to answer your first question...

But, if you're going to play online, definitely invest in a headset. The basic one is $20 and works just fine. I find that it definitely enhances game play by allowing you to communicate with other players.

I think the overheating problem was fixed quite a while ago. I've never had a problem with mine, nor have any of my friends.

Enjoy!

i play games with an optical mouse and have no problems. it is a reaper made by ideazon. i wouldn't use a trackball because they pick up lint and stuff that can interfere with gaming at a critical point. the optical will to but i just blow on it quickly and its clean.no trackball is not needed anymore

What gaming insdustry was more relevant or innovative Consoles or PC?

I would like to hear the world view on that thanks

.

What gaming insdustry was more relevant or innovative Consoles or PC?
Personally I think that they both played a role in the gaming industry. Consoles were the first and they innovated the gaming industry. Games like MArio, Tetris, pacman etc shaped early video games into fun things. After that, Pc's became readily available and immediatly began churning out great games. Starcraft. Warcraft, Baldurs gate etc made the PC a great rival. Right now, the only other conetender was the Playstation but games like Final Fanatsy and Metal Gear Solid had the Playstation winning.

Right now, I am a PC gamer. WHy? Well I enjoy PC only games, I prefer using a mouse to analoge sticks and I relish the ability to upgrade my PC.

£100 isnt alot of money to spend on both a gaming motherboard and processor however i will do my best

a good inexpensive but powerful gaming processor is the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ 2.20GHz (AM2)http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... is a very good processor with some excellent specs including a 1000mhz fsb and a 1MB L2 Cache, for the price this is a great gaming cpu and will handle any games you throw at it,it also has the added advantage of being dual core

a compatible motherboard for this cpu is the Jetway M2A692-GDG-PB AMD 690G - Socket AM2(http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... is a very good inexpensive motherboard 100% compatible with the athlon processor

it has a pci-express x16 slot and a onboard graphics solution based around the ATi Radeon X1250 Onboard Graphics, the sound sub system is supplied by a Azalia HD 8-Channel Audio CODEC,and other interesting specifications include Dual Channel DDR2 800 Memory DIMMs Supported,Support 4 Serial ATA Devices with RAID 0. 1 . 10 . ,CPU Vcore 7-Shift / BIOS BACK %26amp; DeBug Port .

both the cpu and motherboard come to around £70 so if you dont want to use the onboard radeon x1250 graphics(which are not too bad(pixel and shader model 2.0 and direct x 9.0c) you can allways invest in a Jetway GeForce 7300 GT 256MB DDR2 PCI-E for £25.95 exc. VAT from http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component... a Core: 500MHz, Memory: 667Mhz, DDR2, 128Bit Memory Interface this equates to a handy little graphics card and is far better than any onboard set up

all the three components come to just over £100 and will bring your p.c into the 21st century, and fully gaming compatible

finally games like microsoft flight simulator will run great on this set up and the geforce card will allow you to add more effects in-game including antianilising and antistropic filtering

any problems let me know

I have a serious problem, I cant stop playing games. I will put games before my college work, familiy and everything else possible. What can I do to help stop myself playing games?

How can I stop my gaming addiction?
u should get the Wii, that way you'll hate videogames forever........FOREVER!!!!

Wii=weak!!
Reply:How about instead of stopping your addiction, you turn it in to a positive?. Have you ever considered working in the industry? Maybe you can use your skills to create, design, program, produce or develop games? It is a difficult field to get in too, but very rewarding once you are there!
Reply:Yeah if you love gaming enough you should get a job in that field. But if you don't think that it's for you, you should find new hobbies or something that will keep you from playing video games.
Reply:First off which games you play(curious lol)

Ok well what IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII did was....

I counted the time I played games (usually) a day then instead of playing games I took that time, and hit the gym -- OH MY GOD -- SO worth it to not play games...

ALSO -- took that time and went to college

Now- I have something to show for my time instead of a character that will be useless when the next patch comes out ;p

oh and the sex, and alcohol, and all out IRL fun.

I've been off for 1.5years(but did come back to play -- 1-3 hours max) rarely, and no TV also. :P
Reply:keep urself occupied
Reply:Put all your games in a lock box delete them from your pc and give someone in your family the key to the lock box. the only time you can play a game is after you have spent time with family, gone to colledge and worked! this will give you the games that you are addicted to you has rewards for doin what you need to do.

What is the best gaming card for gaming and some 3d works?

My plan is to buy a new pc with core2duo 2.66mhz with 2gb ram but still unsure with the graphics card becoz I'm a gamer and do some animation too - 2d and 3d.

Currently I'm playing Battlefield 2, doing 2D animations with ToonBoom and 3D with 3DS max. So I need your opinion before I ended up with an underperform system.. ;p

Oh anyway budget is around US$300 for the graphics card.

Cheers!

What is the best gaming card for gaming and some 3d works?
I hope you have PCI Express?

SLI Mode?

then your talking for Nvidia type - Geforce 8800

No need to purchase the name brand you can go with a cheaper one of these from the likes of PNY and such.
Reply:I custom build computers, and if you let me know your total budget, then i can tell you what the best configuration i can do for you, which is usually cheaper than places like alienware, dell, ect.

Thanks.

How do you create an online multiplayer gaming community website?

Such as pogo etc, how is it done? And is it possible to make a much smaller and basic one? What type of Programs would i need?

How do you create an online multiplayer gaming community website?
You need some server space, a Flash design kit, experience, and time. It is possible, but it is easier to make non-multiplayer ones.
Reply:With a lot of resources, skill and time.

In my opinion, if someone's asking this, they won't have the skill or resources to do it. To be honest.

That doesn't mean you can't learn, it may just take awhile and a few degrees.
Reply:You would need a server, first of all, and a lot of web design experience. I'd recommend hiring someone to design it for you.

Is a Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Good for gaming?

Is a Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 good for gaming to play things like World of Warcraft and Secondlife? Or what graphics card do you surrgest?

Is a Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 Good for gaming?
it is not good for gaming.

It is integrated in your motherboard, taking resources from your ram and CPU.

A 8800 GT or ATI 3870 is good though.
Reply:Not really. It sounds like an integrated card and integrated cards are the absolute worst for gaming because they use up system resources. If it's a desktop and relatively new, then it should have a pci-e x16 slot, then I'd suggest the following card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

Otherwise, I'd go for an older card which uses an agp slot:

If it's a laptop, then any nvidia or ati card that you get an option to add is better.

Good luck!

Anybody who's owned or owns a Flash Gaming site? How much money did you make with it?

How did you monetize it?

I have the opportunity to get about 2000 visitors to a gaming site. I was wondering if that's enough to make a profit assuming at least 1000 of them are interested in games. Thanks.

Anybody who's owned a Flash Gaming site? How much money did you make with it?
i wouldnt if i was you. becasue the big games sites e.g addicting games just dominate the market because it is really hard for you to get to the top of the list on google or yahoo

hope this helps but the choice is ultimately up to you

Why does the gaming media never ask if GTA4 coming out on PC?

Endless mini-sites, cover stories, extended features, for over a year we've been hearing about this game but NOBODY ever asks Rockstar the biggest and simplest question of all - is it coming out on PC? It's pretty rude of Rockstar to just ignore us like this and seemingly even ban journalists from asking the question. The series started on PC, every other game in the series was on PC, they have fans waiting for some information here and frankly I got annoyed at their silence long ago.

Why does the gaming media never ask if GTA4 coming out on PC?
It's not a secret, it's officially coming out for both the 360 and PS3

Do you see PC in there? I don't
Reply:Did you even read the question? I asked why the media has no interest and never asks. Report It

Reply:It will eventually come out on the PC. I think Rockstar just wants to avoid piracy. Why get a PS3 or 360 version when you can just download it free for your computer? However, PC sales do boost sales, so I don't doubt for a second that you'll see GTA on the PC about 6 months after the console versions.

On the plus side, when it does come out on the PC you'll probably get all the DLC for free. I wouldn't be surprised if the "exclusive" xbox DLC went to the PC as well (being as Microsoft owns both).
Reply:it is not coming out on the pc just yet it might seeing how mass effect and games such were ported to the pc. But come launch day GTA4 will be for PS3 and Xbox 360 only

Where can I find a good cheap TV that will allow me to hook up gaming consoles?

I really need help finding a TV to hook a Playstation 2/Nintendo GameCube up to. I have no idea where to begin because this is the first TV that I am personally buying. I really hope anyone can help me because I feel so lost. Additional Info: I am not made of money and I don't need a flat screen or other fancy type of tv. Just a good one that I can hook my systems up to.

Where can I find a good cheap TV that will allow me to hook up gaming consoles?
you can go to the target store...they have nice cheap televisions. usually they can all hook up to game consoles, its a big variety store.
Reply:Yard sales, flea markets, neighbours basement, etc etc. local new paper in the classifieds
Reply:You could go to your local Wal-Mart and they have cheap T.V's that can hook up game consoles. Or you could go online and find something cheap. I hope this helps.
Reply:if u live in canada u can go to future shop and buy a 15" tv with the A/V hook ups for like $89.99. maybe try a pawn shop... they have good deals. Ebay wid be the best
Reply:Go to walmart and get one with the jacks on the front for easy game hookup...
Reply:Walmart, you can't get much cheaper than that!
Reply:Try Goodwill, Salvation Army stores etc. They let you try all the electronic stuff before you buy it and the money goes to a better purpose.I got a 19in color TV at Goodwill for $20.00 4 years ago and it still works fine.
Reply:I had my TV go out not too long ago. Some good choices for a new one are walmart, target and kmart. If something goes wrong you have some time to return it.

I made a different choice thou. I looked at pawn shops. If you go this way make sure it's a reputable place. Have them plug in it for you so you can see what the picture is like. The down side is that if it goes out...you're stuck. I bought a 27" panasonic for $89. It works great...and I have my game systems hooked up to it.

Good Luck!

How do I apply for a Nevada gaming license? So I can begin the process off opening a small casino.?

Websites or any other information you could give me would be great. I've just searched around because I'm really interested but I can't find much.

How do I apply for a Nevada gaming license? So I can begin the process off opening a small casino.?
Contacting the Nevada State Gaming Commission directly would be the place I would think to start...phone or website.
Reply:Do you feel important asking this? To open a casino requires millions and millions of dollars a small army of lawyers, years and years of work, BUT you want information on this from "experts" here on Yahoo...

How do I start up a gaming site online?

This question seems to get asked at least once a day.

If you want to do a poker site you have two options. The fastest and cheapest is to just pay to join an existing network. You basically just pay and they give you everything. All you need to do is take care of marketing. Since you are joining a network rather than starting a new site you will have a decent amount of tables going so marketing will be easier.

The second option is two either licence software or develop your own. Find some servers and start marketing. This is the better route but it take a lot more time and money. Until you get players it will be tough. You need to hit a critical mass to make the site attractive to players

How good is my Pavilion dv9500t for gaming?
If you have a dedicated NV8600 card it should be fine.
Reply:As far as laptops go, the DV9500t is not bad. The processor is lacking, but the 8600m is powerful enough to drive the 17" screen, which I bet kicks ***.

Whats the difference between SLI and Crossfire gaming PC's?

I looking to buy a new PC for online gaming and have seen two different types SLI and Crossfire, what is the difference between the two?

Whats the difference between SLI and Crossfire gaming PC's?
Your question is a bit like asking the difference between Intel and AMD processors. Nvidia and ATI are just the 2 main manufacturers of graphics cards - periodically one is slightly better than the other, but not so you would really notice the difference. Both do 90%+ the same thing using slightly different technology. Both will run all games.

Your best bet is decide how much you want to spend and look up graphics cards reviews in that price range to see which is the best value for money at this time.

As an additional note, SLI and Crossfire both relate to the manufacturers ability to use 2 graphics cards linked together to improve performance. This can get expensive with individual cards costing £300-500 ea, so take a while to consider how much performance you really need. AND you need a motherboard that will support 2 graphics cards.
Reply:SLI is for Nvidia video cards and crossfire is for ATI cards.

I crunch numbers. Should I buy a gaming computer or a media center computer?

I am going to be buying a new desk top computer. Obviously, I'll do dual core.

I do a lot of number crunching and haven't been able to determine if I'd be better off with a gaming computer or a media center computer. Does the choice make a difference to number cunching (statistical analysis, simulations, data mining)?

I'm not a novice to computing, but way short of being an expert like I know some of you are. I'd like some opinions and I'd love to hear your reasoning, too. And if you have specific suggestions as to what I should I should make a priority, it would be great to have that too.

I crunch numbers. Should I buy a gaming computer or a media center computer?
A media center computer should be fine. Just upgrade to little more ram and you should be fine!! So if it has 512 mb, upgrade to 1 gig
Reply:First of all, both of those are going to have high-end video cards, which you do not need. Your number crunching will mostly involve text (and low-end text, at that).

Your best bet is probably a custom computer. Go for at least 512 MB RAM, a fairly low-end video card, and really anything you want after that. That should save you money on both the RAM and the video card (unless you think you need more than 512 MB RAM to do number-crunching).

With that setup, you'll not be playing any games...and your videos will be minimal. But it'll run.
Reply:Any entry level system will do number work efficiently. You do not need the extra oomph of the gaming or media systems - unless you have a second purpose for the system. You can get your job done for around $650.
Reply:In the long run, I'd go with a gaming machine, but there really isn't much difference as long as the processors are the same. I really think that the Media Center has a lot of bloatware that could ultimately slow you down.
Reply:you need ram and cpu power, video card (the meat of a gaming machine) ain't gonna help you crunch numbers.
Reply:well hard to say what to choose without know the hardware of those 2 choices, since a gaming machine will have some serious power behind it dedicated hardware for gaming, and great soundcard and parts and will proberly cost double the cost of a media pc, since that means it will contain an ok graphics card and medium to rubbish soundcard, ok processing power and ram.

this should about cover it.
Reply:dual core dose not mater. windows xp does not know how to utalize it but vista will and besides vista will still have a lot of errors and incomplet parts. windows always does. so i would just look at ram hardrive and processor. pentium 4 3.0 ghz will be fine.

Whats more important when determining a computer gaming performance? CPU or Video Card or RAM?

I understand all components of a computer affect performance, but is there any one component that has more weight between the CPU the RAM or the Video Card? If I was building a gaming computer, which would be the best part to invest in if I am on a rather tight budget?

Whats more important when determining a computer gaming performance? CPU or Video Card or RAM?
All three, but in today's games they are video card bottlenecked. Get the best video card you can, and I recommend a Nvidia 8800GT 512mb which are very fast and efficient. If you need cheaper get the 9600GT 512mb, if you want fancier, get the 8800GTS 512mb (not the 640mb one, it's slower).

Then just make sure you have 2gb of ram and a good Intel dual core CPU, the e8400 is a great buy and very fast.
Reply:first cpu then ram then video, but you need all of them
Reply:Try all 3 equally. Video card generates your frame rate. The CPU and RAM determine how fast teh game can run.
Reply:They all have a major impact on gaming performance. Probably the most notable performance increase will be seen from having a high end video card. Having said that it is important to realize that the other worse components of the computer will bottleneck the best part.

I wrote an article on choosing your computer here: http://www.thetechjuice.com/2008/04/seri...

It might provide some additional information to help your decision.

What is the name of the gadget that lets you hook up four different gaming systems to it?

I've seen it at Circuit City and can't remember the name. It allows you to hook all the systems you own up to it and then hit a switch on the box when you want to play one of them. It has labeled already on it Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo, Other.

What is the name of the gadget that lets you hook up four different gaming systems to it?
it's an AV splitter, adapter, or switcher

many stores that sell electronic equipment have these items. don't worry about the labels, you can make your own.

all they do is provide a multiplexer so that you can put AV cables from many objects - VCR, DVD, PS2, Gamecube - into the adapter, and then the adapter sends it's AV cables into the TV.

you then push a button to let a signal through to the TV. ask a sales rep for more information - also, don't forget that there are other customers usually, and sometimes they have more information than the sales people.

in a world where we are, as a people, becoming more socially isolated, it is always a good thing to find reasons to talk to strangers (this does not apply to minors, obviously)
Reply:Not sure of the product name, but it is made by madcatz(spelled exactly like that). Try their website!
Reply:It,s called a multiplex. Different manufacturer's have diff names for it so I suggest you go to a customer service and explain what you are looking for that way you will not buy the wrong one.
Reply:There are many different kinds. I have one that connects up to 5 and its by Pelican but I dont know the name. You could go to the Pelican website maybe and look around but otherwise I dont know.

What do I need for the perfect xbox live gaming experience?

I have an xbox 360 arcade console with 4 games.

Games-

Assassins Creed

NBA Street:Homecourt

Def Jam:Icon

WWE:Smackdown vs Raw 2008

I plan on getting Call of Duty:4 for sure. I have wireless internet in my house and I am going to get the wireless network adapter.

But my question is what accessories do I need?

What do I need for the perfect xbox live gaming experience?
you need a hard drive... really, it helps a lot when you're playing games, like xbox originals and stuff. PLus, you can download demos and free games, which are always an added bonus, and 256mb is just not enough for that. You also might want to get a headset, especially if you want to buy Halo, or in team matches, communication is vital, unless you want to get clobbered. So, hard drive and headset. Thats pretty much it, unless you want a camera, but I seem to live fine without it. Might I also suggest Mass Effect(not xbox live) ?
Reply:no i dont think its a knife but its looks cool cuz they cant buff it

This was the 10th game of spades of me, I usually do not play games in yahoo, the people are very rude and vulgar.

How do you unbar yourself from yahoo gaming rooms?
· IF banned this is my advice to you.. And I think it's working as I know many have called so far. Yahoo has to take action! You’re among hundreds so far to be unfairly banned. Sadly yahoo is very slow about fixing or responding to this anti-bot program glitch. Here is where you can report the problem. But so far they have not done much to help people you could email them but all you get is a bot generated less than help full reply! This problem has been on going for at least 8 months!

Better yet call them! That will do more in the way of bringing attention to the problem!

How do you create a gaming laptop from scratch?

Is it that hard? Where can i get resources? Where can i buy parts? Where do i get the base model?

How do you create a gaming laptop from scratch?
Yes you can, it is called a barebones notebook. New Egg has some kits on sale. Asus brand are all kits put together and sold by a retailer. It is not easy. Google barebone laptops. Check my link for more information.
Reply:Laptops aren't like desktops where you can build your own fairly easily, a laptop has to be built by a particular manufacturer and what you need to do is look for a machine that has the specs you're looking for.
Reply:Actually no.

You can not buy a case, motherboard, video, and sound cards for the your system.

You would have to buy a high end laptop and add more memory and a larger hard drive, these are the only modifications you can make to a laptop.

How can i promote my gaming site?

I've very proud to say that i've finished my game downloads website.

However, I could surely use some tips on how to promote it.

There will be no income from this website, I just want people to have fun.

Thank you!

How can i promote my gaming site?
Talk about it on slashdot.org, and try to differentiate it bit from other sites explaining why it's better without sounding arrogant. Make people think it's cool. If you hit the right balance, you could generate some buzz. If you're really lucky, you'll get "slashdotted" (as in promoted to the front page of slashdot.org). Almost anything that gets slashdotted gets ridiculous amounts of traffic. Last I checked they do 8 million+ pageviews a day.

Now with that said ... Honestly, you're going to have to have solid content and something different from the crowd to really get noticed in a big way.

i seem to be liking the alienwares a lot but there prices are crazy!!! anybody know a good desktop that i can get for playing wow that is slightly worse but is cheaper.

THXS!

What is a good desktop that is almost as good as alienware at gaming but is cheaper?
UHH, alienware is not the only gaming PC manufacturer.

There are dozens of others that are far more expensive.

Compared to them, alienware is a bargain.

Anyway, your best bet is CYBERPOWER PC.

They have the cheapest systems I've ever seen that's not refurbushed.

Go to their website here:

http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/

Pick the right specs, and you'll own that alienware with 3/4 the price!
Reply:Seriously. Cyberpower may be cheap and all but they are not exactly good quality. Some machines shipped don't even power up. I don't get why people don't build their own computers. Is it because half the world is too lazy to get off their asses and buy from a second-rate company like Cyberpower? Report It

Reply:The name Alienware has nothing to do with how it performs.

I build high-end gaming machines that will kick their butts up and down the street for a lot less. Get yourself a hot board like an Asus PK5 deluxe, put a Q6600 SLACR quad in it, load it up with Ballistix ram with the D9 chips use a couple 75GB Raptors in a raid0 with a big hard drive for storage, use a 640MB EVGA 8800GTS superclock a 520 watt corsair PSU. Buy all your parts on newegg then go to your local computer shop and find a builder or ask about a workshop where people build their own puters with an instructor watching over. Probably save enough to pay for your LCD monitor and speakers.
Reply:DELL XPS
Reply:If your motivated you can always shop your own parts and assemble your own computer. Since I built my first computer I can never see myself ever buying one again with the exception of a laptop.
Reply:When buying a gaming pc check the processor power, ram, and video card. The brand isnt important as most pc parts are made by big manufacturers. Go to--Pricewatch.com. They have lots of stores to compare prices, and some even have free shipping!! I went to cyberpower like anonymous x said. They have some really good machines for good prices.

For clan games and things of that nature. What do they usually charge by month/year. Are they lag free servers?

Is it expensive to BUY your own server?

Does it matter what country the server is in?

How much does it cost to rent a server for on-line gaming? Who are the best ones to use?
Well it depends on what you will use it for.

Text based games arent that bad around $500 for a cheap(laggy) one. $4000-5000 for a good one. It also depends one how many will play. The more there is the more you will need.

Now if its a graphic game than thats out of my league.

Also getting it instaled is another issue^.^
