What is the best motherboard to get for building a gaming computer?

I am building myself a gaming computer and was wondering which motherboard is the cheapest and most useful for making such a computer. I was looking at getting a new ASUS Striker Extreme motherboard, but it is too expensive. So I need a gaming motherboard that is good and cheap. If anyone knows of any motherboards that are great for gaming and are cheap please tell me.

thanx,\

you are right about the striker extreme...it is pricey! It is the best, though. Asus has some other 680i offerings for around $150. Check out some of those....they should work well for you. I would try and go with the 680i chipset if possible. It is tops right now.
Reply:Get an Asus P5K board with the P35 chipset. They have a lot of different P5K boards out depending on the memory, if you want Raid etc.

Use Corsair XMS ram with it. Expect to pay $150 or more for a good gaming board.
Reply:go to www.newegg.com, the latest motherboard would be the am2, components to this type of motherboard varies from cheap to expensive same with the types of motherboards, look around at their selection and check out the ratings given by the people who bought the motherboard, most motherboards are the same just a few slight differences its the video card and the processor that makes or breaks you on gaming
Reply:The one I have is either nforce or nvidia, I cannot remember I bought it off a friend for $75 and had to download the drivers for it.

It's a bright red, amd series, dual pci-e slots that can be bridged, upto 4 gigs of ram i have 1.5 gigs.

It has an AMD 939 socket, i have an amd 3.2 ghz
