Can someone help me find a good gaming desktop?

I am not the best at Desktops and their specifications i just really want to find a good gaming laptop.

Can someone help me find a good gaming desktop?
Look for a core2 duo processor

Ram has to be atleast 1 gb (2 gb recommended)

Nvidia Graphic card (8 series)

Atleast 250 gb hard disk
Reply:I am confused. you first asked about a good gaming desktop and then a good gaming laptop.

There really isn't such a thing as a good gaming laptop. If there were you would see a lot of them at LAN parties, but instead people haul around their entire system so they don't have to put up with the shortcomings.

Pre-configured "gaming" systems are often extremely overpriced. The only thing you really need to look for is a fast CPU and a fast video card. If the system doesn't have a fast video card(most likely if not a "gaming" computer) then make sure you can put one in it and find one for it. It may be difficult to believe, but a $500-$600 computer with a $400 video card totaling under $1000 can(can, not always) waste some of these $2000 machines. A little more money gets you a little more.

There is no better way to get exactly what you want in a computer then getting exactly what you want. What I mean is - you can build it yourself. Most gamers do just that. They pick and choose what components they want based on the price/performance ratio. Then they can later upgrade and sell their older stuff to someone down the line to lower upgrade costs.

Use futuremark.com's orb to poke around and look at performace people are getting from their hardware to make your choices.:

Be aware of the stock clock speeds and look for them. The overclocked ones are not accurate. I would not recommend anything slower than a 7600GT. That is a great card for the money. The 8600GT is SLOWER so don't let the model numbers fool you. Take a look at the results.

If I were to build a gaming computer today this is what I would want to build it with:

nForce 680i chipset motherboard

Core 2 Duo e6750

Radeon 2900xt

2 GB of PC-800

All the other parts really don't make much difference as long as they are of good quality. The power supply I would probably try to keep above 500 watts - and again... good quality. SilverStone power supplies are amazingly good. Antec is VERY good as well. Rosewill is actually pretty good and amazingly affordable. There are lots of reputable brands. I am just naming a few.

newegg.com is one of the most popular places to shop for components. They also have user ratings to help you decide. If newegg doesn't have what your looking for you can use pricewatch.com to locate a reputable dealer that does have what you want and at the best price - watch for shipping costs.
