How much would i need to build a gaming computer?

I have about 500 dollars to spend on building a game computer right now would that be enough and what all would i need?

How much would i need to build a gaming computer?
Most likely not.

You need lots of RAM, Video RAM and hard drive for a gaming PC.

You can buy a normal PC for $500 and upgrade individual pieces as you earned more money.

Cheers!
Reply:500 is not enough for a gaming PC

consider this...

good motherboard and CPU: $300 (Core2Duo)

video card: 100-300 (geForce 8600/8800)

Memory 75 (2gigs)

HDD: 100

DVD burner: 30

Case and power supply: 100 (750W SLI ready)

And easily come up to at least 700 at that's not even top of the line.
Reply:yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it enough
Reply:$2500
Reply:Saying that you need more than a thousand or so is just...unexplainable. You can create an awesome computer with $2500, but really, who wants to spend that much money unless you play games as your occupation?

I built my gaming computer (medium to high parts in what they provide) for around $700. You can easily spend more or less...If you can get up to that amount, you can make a pretty nice PC. With $500 you can still create a great PC, but it really depends on what parts you get.
Reply:You need more than $2000 to get a gaming computer.
Reply:if you are looking for a true gaming computer with the good specs, 500 bucks would only buy you a processor and motherboard. a good quality fast procesor will run you at least $250. A good mother board. At least 200.

than you will need lots of ram. 2 gig minimum. 3 gig would be ideal.

than you will need a quality video card. nvidia or ati. Another 180 to 200. dollars.

you will need a decent case, 50 to 150 bucks.

a dvd drive will be around 100 bucks. for the dvd-rw

a power supply (usually cases come with it built in but some will not) 50 bucks

than you will need windows.

500 dollars no way. 1200 to 1500 would be ideal.

visit http://www.newegg.com to see prices and stuff. good place to spec out your parts.

imho, buy a pre built. its cheaper than building.

find a desktop with a dual core processor, at least 2 gigs of ram, and a quality video card.

alienware is now a dell since they bought them out.

I preffer sony vaio's. they usually run north of 1k on a quality spec pc.

500 bucks gets you a mid grade pc.
Reply:Not enough if you want to play Crysis at best resolution. Check out Sharky Extreme for his budget recommendations. Never steered me wrong so far, and you can check out what was hot 6 months ago and find it's much cheaper now.
Reply:you can build an ok gaming system w\ 500.

i would look at amd processors, they're pretty cheap and ddr2 ram is really cheap.

basically...

cpu : 85-125 (amd X2 4800+ -X2 5600+)

psu : 50

ram : 2gb ddr2 40-60 (ddr-800)

hard drive : 250gb $60

video card : 150$ amd x1950xt, hd2600xt, nvidia 8600

operating system ?

case ?\

edit : dvdrw from newegg is about $30 (several models).... not $100 like other people are posting.
Reply:Look people this guy does not need a 300.00 mobo. In fact he does not need a huge CPU either. What he needs is a good video card.

Mobo ASUS P5N-E SLI

Intel Core 2 Duo E6550

8800GT

4 gig of DDR2 800 mhz

Pc power and cooling PSU

Okay its not 500 bucks but its under 1k
Reply:Yeah, but it all depends on the type of games you want to run, and on what settings. All you really need for gaming is a decent cpu and a video card. The more you spend on these, the higher quality you will get in gaming, and the opportunity to run the latest games on full settings.

You can get by on 500, you probably wont be able to run some of the newest games on full settings, but on low settings instead.

Again, its the CPU and the graphics card that can end up costing you the most money.
