I am thinking about getting the Wii for my son. He is 7. How good or bad is this gaming system?

We have never owned a gaming system before. Any advice will help.

It's fun for kids, plus they move a lot with the controllers (secret excercise!!!). The games are less violent than other systems, I have an x-box 360 but I wouldn't let my kid touch it with a 10 foot pole!! Wii is a great choice for a 7 year old.
Reply:The Wii is perfect for a 7 year old or a 40 year-old. The interactive system is a blast and will leave you laughing your head off. It's really great for you because you've never owned a gaming system; it's an easy, perfect starter-system. With games like wii-sports which make it easy to play the game, where you just swing a racket or baseball bat or throw a bowling ball, it feels like you're right there in the game. Go for it, it's definitely the best system w/ the best value. Your son will love it!
Reply:Yes it is, the wii is a great gaming system that is the cheapest in it’s

Category, fun to play, is good for kids, and has great multiplayer. It is also good exercise

With the motion controls and the games are kid, oriented.

I would get the wii at toys r us.

I walked right in on a Sunday morning and they had about 10 there.

If you go when they open on Sunday, this is when they get their shipment.

Do not go to best buy or target, even on the days they say they are going to get the shipments they don’t have them.

Good Luck

P.S. Some good games to get on the wii are wii play- the games are fun and it comes with an extra controller, and Need for speed carbon, a great way to utilize the motion sensing on the Wii and a good racing game! Another good racing game is excite truck, it is awesome on multiplayer.
Reply:I can't do anything but second everything already said. When I was about your son's age, my folks bought me an Atari 2600 (all the rage back then). My point? The Wii is this generation's Atari 2600 - good games, great support, with even better stuff on the way (Mario Party 8 this month, Mario Galaxy in the months ahead). It's a sure, safe bet. It's just perfect for your family! If you're like ours, you'll find you spend even more time together as a result of it!
Reply:My daughter is 7, and we LOVE the wii. Even grandma likes to play! There are plenty of games for the younger set, and I would highly recommend it.

I would also recommend the optional charging station for the wiimote. the batteries seemed to die quickly.
Reply:Wii is great for everyone but so is the DS.
Reply:Very good, for everyone, me, my mum and my grandma (and that is a funny sight) it can get the whole family together having a laugh. The wii is one of the most suitable consoles for a kid as it isn't hard to pick up and play. However, it can get boring if he wants to play on his own, especially if he doesn't have brothers or sisters. You can get some very good games for all ages and all abilities. It is very good for first-time gamers as it is easy to pick up and play like a tennis racket, golf club etc etc.

Overall, great in groups and still addictive when playing on your own.
Reply:your son will love the wii
Reply:i think the wii is a great console, and it would be a great interactive gift for your son. But if you are a serious gamer which u are probably not then the best console is the xbox 360 other wise the wii is a great console that will be the envy of his friends and give him plenty of excercise while he's GAMING. that's almost impossible these days.
Reply:my brother has a Wii and i love it the most out of all the systems! Its great for kids cause it promotes physical activities while incorporating the gaming system that they love (and i think we can all agree that physical activities are very much needed for today's youth). Another plus is that games that are not full of needless violence are easy to find and its something the whole family can enjoy!
Reply:The Wii is a GREAT system for kids and people who are new to gaming. It's very intuitive; it's easy to pick up the controller right off and figure out how to use it, as opposed to most game controllers that take a bit of practice to figure out. And most of the Wii games are great for multiplayer, which means you can enjoy playing them as a family with your son. It doesn't have the best graphics, and to "hardcore gamers" it does tend to get old fast, but for a situation like yours it is perfect. I highly recommend you get one if you're looking for a game console.
