I've finished college for 3d animation and haven't been able to break into the game industry yet. I've sent out 50 portfolio packages and gotten back atleast half that in postcards and e-mails. I've also been to GDC and Siggraph. I haven't even been able to get a regular art job. What gives? People say my stuff is good.
How do you break into the gaming industry?
You might have to bite the bullet and become a QC tester for a software company. The job doesn't pay all that great, and if you have a 3D Animation Art degree you will supremely overqualified for it, but it's a good way to get your foot in the door. Keep trying, though, sooner or later you will meet someone who wants to see your artwork. Depending on your current situation (mainly where you currently reside), there should be any number of young software companies looking to pluck up a recent graduate who might just be able to make their product a little bit better. Good luck and I hope I helped.
