Toughest handheld gaming system for roudy 12 yr old boy?

I am looking for a gaming system to purchase for a rowdy rambunctious 12 year old boy. I miss the old Gameboy days when you could drop them and they still worked.

I have been reading online and am narrowing to possibly a Nintendo DS or a PlayStation Portable. What are your thoughts? I *know* it will be dropped. He is not the most coordinated boy.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If the console has a high probability of being dropped, I suggest getting a Nintendo DS.

The PSP has a lot of moving parts with the UMD drive, and is therefore easier to break.

The DS has no moving parts, as all games are stored on nearly unbreakable game modules.

I'd suggest you buy an additional soft silicone or rubber skin for additional protection to the DS however.

But all in all, Nintendo consoles are by far the most robust consoles out there.
Reply:The PSP is out of the question. It has an LCD screen, so it's somewhat fragile. It also uses a laser to read the UMD, so if it drops, the laser could get misaligned, and the PSP won't work.

The DS Lite isn't that bad since it folds onto itself, and the outer casing is pretty tough. But the screens is another story. It can break if it gets dropped from too high.

If you're going to get him a handheld, get him some type of casing to protect his DS or PSP.
Reply:I vote DS. I've dropped mine plenty, and thrown my purse with the DS in it and it still plays fine.
Reply:Most of the basics have been covered already but I do have to say that I have dropped my PSP more than a couple of times but it's in perfect shap because I got a starter package for it that had a plastic protective cover. 20 bucks. Anyway, I vote the PSP.
Reply:original gameboy!

nah the psp ive dropped mine so many times and it plays perfectly
Reply:PSP and Nintendo DS are good. Don't get Nintendo DS Lite! Breaks easily.
Reply:the ds after what my 9yr cuz did to mine and it still works that would be my vote.
